(RE) " Palin ?'m ready to take over if needed" Sarah Palin said? believe the US should take whatever steps necessary to protect Americans including " perhaps" war with Russia and launching pre-emptive cross border military strikes against terrorists. In it she has overlooked the fact, that Russia was US ally during WW2. We were young during that war (WW2)- there is the possibility that one day - we will see once again ,how terrorists of the past -will destroy themselves a second time with their own hands. Its something ,well worth to reflect on because there is "absolutely nothing " we can do about it or I can do about it. (We) ....people of my time and age.

I love the way you bristle (no pun intended), George, when your alleged impartiality is impugned. But, mate, what did Palin's daughter's child have to do with Palin's ability to run as the Veep? Surely you are too intelligent for 'sins of the fathers' stuff? Was it a hook into the program? Very prosaic. Predicatble even. Experience in journalism is one thing; but when it gets hackneyed, even big-name journos should be asked hard questions.

I would be very suspicious of what the Republicans are up to now - the rumours that America is deliberately inflaming the situation in Georgia to get people to vote for McCain is very believable - but then they seem to be able to get away with anything - such as assisting in the demolition of the the twin towers and WTC 7 with explosives and telling porkies about a plane hitting the Pentagon. How can anyone in their right mind trust these fascist extreme right wingers to do anything good for the people of America? Go to Google and look up "In Plane Sight" and judge for yourself.

Tony Blankly in his interview with George Negus said "choosing an American President is a uniquely personal experience for each American" - what does that mean? American's are special in their depth and breadth of feeling and thought? No one else on the planet considers their leaders the way American's do? Gimmie a break! Will Sarah Palin make or break The Republicans' presidential campaign? Never fear, God is going to work mysteriously through all of those deeply personal experiences and get the Right result.

Hells Bells George! The Republicans are saying that Obama hasn't the experience yet they elected George W as their candidate with a more qualified Vice Pres. Chaney in support. Now they are doing the complete reverse. McCain with experience and ??who?? Palin as probably the most unknown, unqualified candidate in American history. Thankfully we Aussies don't have to pay for politicians just yet! What else can it be? If you raise enough money almost anyone could be the President, providing they're a Yank. The whole US political system has left me so cold that I refuse to even acknowledge any further that it can be called a DEMOCRACY.

George, Palin should be judged on HER abilities. Your opening comment, focusing on the pregnancy of her child, was the 'pits'. Please don't comment about her children, they are her 'innocent' accesories. Focus on HER political flaws and/or abilities. Your bias is once again showing. I keep hoping to see you give anunbiased report, and you constantly fail.

If McCain dies Sarah Palin becomes President. I don't think so! The Republican ticket is a no win choice.

It is a high risk, medium rewards gamble which exposes McCain as a risky proposition for President. Clearly he feels the need to take the limelight off Obama and shore up his conservative base. He has achieved this in the short-term, but how this plays out will depend on Palin's performance and any skeletons in her closet. At any rate, the outcome will be more interesting and less predictable than your average TV reality show.
