The rebels have surrended, therefore they may have not been involved. But a lot of blame falls on Aust, their bullying tactics RE? neighbours: failed RAMSI in Solomons, and 'meddling' into affairs of foreign pacific nations. I won't be surprised the SAS were involved. Too many unanswered questions still exist. President has done well. All the best East Timor, you will need good leaders (who u can rely on) to promote and forster good relations with other disgruntled partied within E/timor.
Renaido served his intended purpose for his masters, the discrediting of the Alkatiri government that was too anti-Australian/American for certain interests, and its replacement with our good friends Ramos-Horta and Gusmao. Now Renaido is dead, and his followers are being rounded up and locked up, so its all pretty much tidied up. Well, until Fretelin looks like getting back into power.
I very much agree with Vito Somoes. On the local front, arrest of Salsinha's group will go some way towards showing that no-one is immune from the rule of law. Unfortunately, arrest of the true perpetrators of the shooting (and of the 2006 crisis) may never happen, as they are, quite possibly, outside of East Timor's jurisdiction. Their identity, however, MUST be uncovered and made known. Only then will the people start to trust - this will go a long way to ensuring future stability in the country. The events of 11th February were devastating and left the nation in shock, but the outcome of this has actually been to help heal and solidify the country. Since the crisis started, the majority of people have mostly been dragged along, feeling unable to protest for fear of retribution. Years of occupation, subjugation, violence and subsequent trauma had left them without a voice. This voice may still be a silent one but it is there, showing itself at the ballot box and in the non-violent stance of most of the population. Since the elections, East Timor has started to move forward at quite a pace. This is visible and is starting to instill some confidence in the future. However, at the tip of the iceberg, empty tummies, little employment, inadequate housing and other social aspects need to be urgently addressed.
Contextually, tension varies in nature in East Timor. If we talked about assasination attempts on the President and the PM, perhaps, the arrest would shed some brighter clues for the capture of those who were the true culprits, and also to proove that no one is immune before the rule of law. differently, if we were talking about the whole crisis in Timor, I think, it is a very deep-rooted issue, and it needs a meticulously great will to solve that, and I see this as a total political conspiracy that is fraught with intentions and the scramble of power. As far is analyse, strengthening of the human-security, equal opportunity and judicial sectors will set those problems bearable and solvable. I realise those mentioned fields are extremely hard to achieve, this is why the responsibility of the nation-building should not only be orintated as the sole responsibilty of the government, but all of the societal components, private sectors and the people themselves in one sacred name "UNITY". We had dreamt of independence, it is time to live independently!
Well, it is absolutly gona solve some of few problem, I think that throght surender of Salsinha it will give good impact to this country, I mean justice are going improved. as we know thoose problem not involved one person, it could be more than that. East-Timor People are now waiting result whos was behind crisis, and atacking Horta and komandante Xanana thoose all.
Let me think a while. Well, Mr. Salsinha and his group should be surrender their selves beffore the justice. And they must obey the State order. This is important and best sollution for them to contribute to the estability of the State. I do not say that they are actor or not or involve other political leader behind crisis. But every person involve in assassination or attemted murder to kill State leaders, that is extreamly criminal against state. I think by the arresting of those who behind the shooting of Presidendt RDTL Mr. Ramos Horta can be resolve problem but its difficult to do that. Its multidimensional crisis. We should be aware that Timor-Leste suffer for long time during 450 under Portuges colonization, 45 years under Indonsian Military occupation. The political patrimonious from these ivent can cause many problem that Timor-Leste faces right now. Timor-Leste is small and Poor,lack of essensial services (including Unemployment,unsafe in work places, unsafe housing, urban slums, gender discrimination and violence). The conclusion area; 1. Dialogue is best way to find best sollution for petitisioners (not include Mr.Salsina's groups) and internal displacement person(IDP). 2. Demended Leaders political will for the State sovereignty. Because they are the main actors of the state. 3. Arrest and brougth perpetrators beffore justice. Thank you.
Who shoot Reinado ? That was the first shoot! It looks like a complete assassination and a conspiracy by two mumbling East-Timor men. I presented my theory about that publicly on the website 24 hours after the killing, now months ago: Can we really trust the tight-lipped Australian rulers about our relation to the East-Timor's leaders? I doubt it!
Well, I think that those who were behind the attack should never be letting roaing free in the jungle. They should be arrested and put in jail for whatever crimes they have comitted. Attacking the president and the prime minister has never been on any one of East Timorese mind except those of Alfredo and his man. It was the greatest sin someone has ever commited in East Timor. If I was the one had power, they all would have been dead well before the atack. Whether arresting them would solve the problem, you all see guys since the shooting of the 2 top leaders some months ago, there has never been any violence reported, it just simply means that the East Timorese hearts stay with Ramos Horta and they love Ramos Horta. I may think and hope that by arresting and having them in jail would calm the situation down.
There is a great deal still unknown as to what was really behind the coup/assassination or kidnapping as mentioned by Mark Davis.Somehow Reinado was able to access Australian camera crews and travel to Indonesia to speak on television prior to the shooting on February 11. Yesterday a report came out that he made 47 phone calls to Australia in the four hours before the attack. Who was he contacting? It seems unlikely it was his Australian lover. Were there Indonesian contacts in Australia pulling the strings, orchestrating this attempt to bring down the country's leaders? Who is supplying these rebels with weapons and why are they so keen to get publicity and yet still evadecapture by the Australian troops?The claim that they had an appointment with the President seems highly unlikely and has not been verified. As long as there are forces working for instability in East Timor, the tensions will persist.
What is the most important in finding solution for Timor Leste's crisis, to me is not by arresting Salsinha's gruop, because this group is not the main actors but they could be just contributor actor. Absolutely i agreed with Gute that "What had happend in Timor Leste is besically the accumulation of multidimensional problems", which have not been tackle by the first government of Timor-Leste neighter current government, and therefore arresting Salsomha won't be the overall solution. To me what needed to be in place in solving the problem in Timor Leste is we need to see a strong political will from the leaders, and in other to do that they have to put aside their political diferences for the sake of natinal interest, because it appreared to me that they are the main actors of the crisis, not Salsinha and neigher Alfredo.
