Amos Roberts
Amos has recently returned to on-the-road reporting, after almost seven years as Dateline’s Supervising Producer.
During that time he helped mould the program into a showcase for video journalism, teaching the skills of journalism and filmmaking to reporters who knew how to do one, but not the other. Amos helped them produce some of Australia’s finest television current affairs, nurturing their talents and supporting them through their adventures (and misadventures) in the world’s trouble spots.
Many of Dateline’s award-winning stories were produced by Amos, who’s helped earn the program several Walkley Awards, a Logie, a Rory Peck and a handful of UN Media Peace Prizes.
Amos started out producing television current affairs at The 7:30 Report when he was 22, and subsequently joined Foreign Correspondent, where he filed stories from Namibia, India, China, Japan, Laos, the Philippines, Indonesia and Italy.
In 1995 he joined the ABC’s Australian Story in its first year and in 1999 he filmed, directed and produced the award-winning ABC documentary, “Australia Has No Winter”, in which he followed a refugee family from Belgrade to Melbourne and documented the first six months of their new life.
Amos joined Dateline in 2001 and apart from reporting a couple of stories in 2003, he’s been chained to his desk (and his mobile phone) in Sydney. He’s looking forward to getting out more.
