JAMES FROM REDCLIFFE,QUEENSLAND SAYS:02:13:27 PM Tuesday, 26th August, 2008
I think the Peoples Revolution in China was in itself an expression of freedom and liberty however those freedoms have been circumvented over the years by a sinister and corrupt central government.
Society much like its political ideals are never constant. The fact that western countries may at times act contrary to the idea of democracy does not mean that we should not strive to realign our objectives.Look at focal point of Barrack Obama's presidential campaign.
The IOC was wrong in granting China the Olympic games because it gives regimes legitimacy at the expense of freedom for all its citizens.
History tells us that by providing currency to dictatorshipd gives rise to anti-libertarian regimes such as that of the Nazis and the former USSR.Both of which have passed on into the annuls of history and courtesy of the individuals who sought to break free from their evil clutches.
TOM MORIARTY FROM PUEBLO, COLORADO SAYS:07:33:26 AM Tuesday, 19th August, 2008
the chinese people are very supportive of their government, which is something the average westerner would never be. but their culture is vastly different. the chinese government is experimenting with more personal freedom, just don`t mess with the government. they realize that this is necessary in today`s age. as far as a jerk like bush trying to impose western democracy on china, or anywhere else, it ain`t gonna happen. they will find their own way as they should, and will, over time.
CJC6 FROM STRATHFIELD SYDNEY SAYS:07:02:13 PM Saturday, 16th August, 2008
Don't play into the hands of this autocratic Chinese regime. They are using the Free-Tibet protests launched by the West to radicalise the impressionable 20's - the young Chinese!
I read the following in one of the mouthpieces of the government - a popular Chinese-language newspaper. Translated as follows:
-IN THE PROCESS OF NATION-BUILDING-
Every country, IN THE PROCESS OF NATION-BUILDING, would inevitably commit atrocities
CLAUDIO FROM MELBOURNE SAYS:09:07:19 PM Monday, 11th August, 2008
Freedom and Liberty is mostly used by the political system - as a political tool to keep up the political system.A propaganda sort of tool, misused at infinitum.
I could say : Thanks to the Americans ,British and Allied Forces (Russians , Jugoslavs )for fighting for freedom during WW2. Thanks to them - I'm enjoing a sort of freedom that very few people understand .
-------------
AS you can see he is talking about freedom . Everything in it looks good and noble .
That is the way in general people perceive the meaning of freedom .

YHANGC FROM ALBURY SAYS:06:15:06 PM Friday, 8th August, 2008
Tibet did not start out with a big Chinese population. So why it has to be considered now and always for ever a part of China????? These people were moved there to change the population and put this foreign Chinese language onto Tibet. The different undertanding is to these invaders "we are FREE to go there but you have not the FREEDOM to object about it"
AL FROM SYDNEY SAYS:05:00:46 AM Friday, 8th August, 2008
"freedom" is "freedom" in every language. there maybe different words to express or describe it but overall understanding of "freedom" is and should the same everywhere. China does not have a different understanding of the word "freedom", it just has different interpretation, the one which suits and describes itself.
JOHN FROM CLAYTON SAYS:04:35:18 AM Friday, 8th August, 2008
I think we in the west are too quick to label anything using our worldview or mindset in judging the Chinese on their freedom. The Chinese have a much longer history than us, and I think it is arrogant of us to quickly label the Chinese as being wrong, using our western viewpoint on a people who have grown up with different social and heirarchial structures than what we are used to.
We often see China as the abuser of human rights, destroying the environment through their rush towards economic power. China sees us as starting the environmental problem with our already greedy consumerist society. They also see us as abusing human rights (Australia with the Aboriginal people and settlers imposing on them, as well as boat people, America with Guantanamo Bay and in the past, black people, the British with the slave trade and the Opium Wars).
We see them as building an economic and military powerhouse with evil motive. Can we say we are any different with our military in imposing ourselves on other countries? Can ANY country claim to be completely honest or righteousness in their economy and military policies?
