Of course not! This is a blatant attempt by the Rudd Government at extortion of a group of vulnerable people. It reeks af paternalism and racism. The only way to win decent conditions for the Aboriginies is to fight for them!
Definitely Not. Aboriginals should not give up their lease. This is their land. I would like to see the opportunity for them to own a home/land themselves.

The town campers should not sign the proposed lease agreements. Funding for housing and infrastructure should go to the community organisations administering these services as with community housing co-operatives elsewhere in Australia. Of course there must be strict accountability and audit provisions attached to the funding and competent advisory services (non-government) to assist with both the construction work and with the arrangements for administering and accounting for the funding. This is essentially how it worked with the Aboriginal Legal Services that I had a hand in setting up in the NT back in 1973. It was their independence and community control and responsibility that was and remains their strength.
No they should not sign but the 'town campers' (probably Arrente people) should still get basic facilities for their use and welfare. Who knows what the Government will do with the land. Like the Uranium mining, I am appalled that it is going ahead. We are new to Alice from WA but are enjoying our stay here immensely.
