WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Is there enough information and support for those living with Hepatitis? Indigenous people are four times more likely to suffer from Hepatitis B or C for a variety of reasons, including low access to health services and the absence of needle exchange facilities.

I've been living with hep C for 20 years. There are support services around but they need to be better advertised. Let's hope this World Hepatitis Day helps get the word out.

Neither information nor treatment is commonly available. If we are serious about it, we've ot to develop a community apporach for addressing it.

I DISCOVERED I HAD HEP C WHEN I TRIED TO DONATE BLOOD. I HAD A LIVER BIOPSY SOME TIME LATER AND ANOTHER YEAR OR SO PASSED AND I WAS CALLED IN BY THE DOCTORS TO SAY I QUALIFIED TO HAVE TREAMENT SUBSIDISED BY THE GOVERNMENT. IT SHOULD TAKE 6 MTHS OF TREATMENT TO RID MYSELF OF THIS GRADE 3 VIRUS.I HAVE NO REAL SYMPTOMS BUT I DO TIRE EASILY AND I AM NOT ABORIGINAL OR TORRES STRAIT ISL.BEFORE I FOUND OUT I HAD IT I WAS NOT AWARE OF ANYTHING RELATED TO HEP C. I DO HEAR MORE ABOUT IT NOW AND HOW TO GET HELP.I AM 47.

No there is not enough clear information for people to understand. Its all well and good to bombard indigenous people with facts and statistics but simple informative language is the way to get through. Educate from a young age, often you will find it is the young who educate the elders in this world of fast moving technology and chaotic pace we all preform under. The fact that indigenous people suffer more with Hep B or C is an insult on our country and its leaders.
