KRIS FLANDERS: ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Monday, 31 August, 2009
First of all a big shout out to all the mob out there! Hope you're all well and deadly! With Living Black screening again from August 31st everyone has been super busy traveling around the country gathering stories for another great series. My first trip was back to the Northern Territory, where I went back to Alice Springs and Tennant Creek.

The main story I was doing there was about the four proposed nuclear waste sites and speaking to some of the traditional owners about their concerns. What an honour it was to meet some of these women and have them show me around their lands, there are some truly beautiful sites there and when you hear these ladies talk about it and what it means to them you get a true sense of why they're fighting against a nuclear waste site. These women were Dianne Stokes (Muckaty Station), Mitch (Harts Range) and Kath Martin (Mt. Everard). Check out the photo gallery with pictures of some of these areas.

My NT trip then took me further north to Tennant Creek, a place that I haven't visited since 1999! It was great to get back there and film some lighter stories including a profile on talented young artist Dion Beasley of Cheeky Dog Designs. Now the amazing thing about this man is that he has muscular dystrophy and is profoundly deaf...but that doesn't stop him from churning out colourful designs! A true inspiration. Check out his website at: www.cheekydog.com.au

Many of these NT stories will be coming up in the coming weeks, so make sure you stay tuned for them and the other great stories from Living Black.
