Monica Lawerence who has written a thesis "Do You Understand? What is the experience for the remote area aboriginal person referred for cardiac surgery at a metro teaching hospital. This lady has spent years trying to get the powers to change to the better the experience of remote aboginal people when visiting hospitals, she has assisted in setting up standards to ensure these people better know what is involved in all aspects of getting ready in the remote community, travelling to and having surgery. At one time many had to fly back from SA to NT where they came from as they were not ready to 100% all patients ready for work. She wrote the first fire pit policy which at present is set in only one site (early 2008)in Australia, why has this not gone to other places? Her work has gone to a senate committee : Inquiry into the operation and effectiveness of Patient Assisted Travel Schemes (PATS) i believe her side should be on a tv program such as Only Black to let people know what is going on with these people, what is happening what they should expect etc.
Matt Priestly and Toby FInlayson from the community arts company 'Desert Pea Media' inspire me. In light of Rudd's reconciliation speech and the importance of creating a 'new beginning' in Australia, i've become particularaly appreciative of the work of people like this. They turn down steady jobs so that they can help the people of the Kamilaroi nation tell there stories through sustainable media programs. Community arts workers like these are at the frontline of Rudd's 'New beginning' and despite a distinct lack of support they keep on trucking. On ya lads! Living Black should do a story on them, they're two very interesting fellas. Their website is desertpeamedia.com.au if anyone wants to find out more about them.
People who create beautiful music that touchs the souls of others like Deltra Goodrem, she is such a beautiful person. The person who inspires me the most is Kevin Rudd because he is doing all that he can to mend the wrongs of past governments, fix problems in Australia and create good relationships with other countries. Kevin Rudd Rules
My new hero is Davina Hughes! Wow...what an athlete. She could be anything and seems to have the right people in her corner. Best of luck Davina!
People like Matt Bowen, Preston Campbell, David Peachey, Anthony Mundine etc, who, despite excelling in their chosen sport and being head and shoulders above their closest competitors but not being given the chance they deserve to represent their country... to continue on when they are obviously being given different opportunities to others, some who weren\'t even born in Aus, shows that these guys are true role models. Oh... plus people like Thurston, who are showing people that we are the greatest race and anything we do, we will win
Im inspired by the aboriginals who arent affraid to show their culture to others, i was affraid to tell people that i was aboriginal for a while because of others.
The person that inspires me the most, is Paul Sinclair, at Taronga Park Zoo. I did my work experience at the zoo, and he taught me that i have alot in my life to look forward to, and that being anything i want to be can happen. He taught me everything i need to know about animals, and their lifestyles. I really think Paul needs more appreciation for what he has done for aboriginal kids as well as others. His family should be proud of him, i know i am. i just want to say thank you again Paul, for all the help, and for making me feel welcome when i was working with you at Taronga Park Zoo...
Im inspired by people who never give up on their integrity. Who stick by what they know is important in their heart and then just take it day by day from there. Faith and tenacity. Oh and good music inspires me more than anything else. 'no fixed address!!!'
I think Karla Grant really shows the world a refined poise, she has an appearance that shows pride in herself and a beauty that reflects a culture that for too long has been unknown to the rest of the world. Plus she is pretty smart too! Good on you Karla.
Thanks for that Roey...should of picked a better nickname. Knew that was you straight away!
