SBS's Living Black has given viewers the chance to hear from both major parties on what they can offer Indigenous Australians, should they win the Federal election.

Host Karla Grant has interviewed the Federal Indigenous Affairs minister Mal Brough and his counterpart, Labor's Jenny Macklin.

Karla asked both to explain their policies, their view of the Emergency Intervention, their stance on reconciliation, how to best balance practical and symbolic progress on that front and the Prime Minister’s idea of recognising Indigenous Australians in the preamble to the Constitution.

The views of Indigenous voters, as heard during Living Black’s recent election forum, held in Blacktown in western Sydney, were expressed. At this forum voters stated they could see no real difference between Labor and the Coalition on Indigenous issues, and so were considering voting for the smaller parties.

Hear the Minister and Shadow Minister’s responses, and find out where they see the future lying for Indigenous people.

Immediately after the interviews with the minister and opposition spokeswoman, Karla discussed their policies with SBS chief political correspondent Karen Middleton and Kirstie Parker, editor of the Koori Mail.
