This year’s list of nominees reads likes a roll call of Indigenous excellence, with Olympic athletes and champion football stars jostling for position alongside internationally recognised artists, acclaimed authors and award-winning educators.

As the NRL celebrates 100 years and the AFL commemorates its 150th anniversary, some of the codes’ greatest players have garnered Deadly nominations, including Greg Inglis, Greg Bird, Shaun Burgoyne and David Wirrpanda.

The first Indigenous field athlete to represent Australia at the Olympics, discus thrower Benn Harradine, is up for Male Sportsperson of the Year, along with fellow Olympians Jade North (soccer) Patrick Mills (basketball) and NBA star Nathan Jawai.

Three female Indigenous Olympians have also earned nominations: Rohanee Cox (basketball), Stacey Porter (softball) and 16-year-old Paralympian Tahlia Rotumah.

The angelic voice of Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu has touched the hearts of countless Australians this year, a fact that has been made evident by his nomination in three categories - Single, Album and Artist of the Year.

Also gaining her first nomination is Tammy Clarkson who is up for Actor of the Year for her role in SBS TV's The Circuit. against East West 101 star Aaron Fa’aoso, City Homicide star Aaron Pedersen and Helpmann Award winner Leah Purcell.

And the nominees are . . . .
