Prime Minister Julia Gillard says the federal budget will return to surplus in 2012/13.

Prime Minister Julia Gillard says Labor will bring the federal budget back into surplus in 2012/13, unlike the opposition.

Opposition Leader Tony Abbott said today a coalition government would get the budget back to surplus "as quickly as possible".

But Ms Gillard is more certain 2012/13 will be a surplus year.

Finance spokesman Andrew Robb said yesterday the coalition would have to consider the government's books when it got in to office before it would be in a position to say when the first surplus would be delivered.

Opposition treasury spokesman Joe Hockey later said the coalition could achieve a surplus in 2012/13, based on current information.

They will get a surplus on our backs as they all ways do, Labour looks good economically because they got most of their revenue off the working class public, tax on alchopops, cigarettes, and much more not to mention power bills and they get away with it, plain packaging on cigarettes is another farce because if they do that they will have to do it to alchohol as well, it is just as much a problem if not worse, "so ugly drab labels on all alchohol" will stop kids buying it ! Labour needs to Go!
