WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Are you satisfied with Qantas' safety record? Are you satisfied with Qantas' safety record, given frantic passengers have told how they struggled to use faulty oxygen masks on flight QF30, when an explosion ripped a hole in the plane's fuselage.

Qantas is a second rate airline - I wish it was not so as it has a proud Australian History. The current accountant types do not have an item in the balance sheet for pride in the job and loyalty - so safety has to suffer. Please remove the Kangaroo.

Qantas spokesperson is quick to say the was no safety issue with a panel being lost off a 747 recently , Does this person realise this is exactly how the Concorde crash happened in Paris. Foreign parts falling onto runways.

I am satisfied. The only thing that has really changed recently is the media's hysteric and inaccurate reporting. The biggest threat to airline safety are these Johnny Come Lately companies like Compass, Virgin and Tiger who use unsustainable fairs to undercut Qantas and force them to in turn cut costs.

QANTAS is over-rated and its recent safety turbulance is of no surpirse what with their cost-cutting. The only thing that has kept QANTAS in the air has been a very effective advertising (propaganda) campaign which sells QANTAS' image as being the 'Australian Airline.' But, this couldn't be further from the truth. QANTAS held Australian travelers hostage to exhorborant airline fares all the way up until it was forced to lower its fares once Virgin muscled its way into the Australian Airline industry. Had the market remained closed, and Virgin not entered the scene, Australians would still be getting ripped-off by the 'Spirit of Australia': QANTAS. QANTAS' service has, especially since the late 1990's been regarded as 2nd class and remains so. Obviously cost-cutting exercises like cutting jobs and delaying and then bundling passengers onto half-empty flights won't have an impact of the safety of their crafts. But, as QANTAS ever increasingly appears to be focused purely on maximising profits, it appears that safety could become a close second on their list of priorities (if it ins't there already).

One wonders why Qantas is so relevant in the list of worldwide air carriers because the kangaroo emblem no longer symbolizes full Australian ownership. So lets skip any nationalistic attention and just get down to the facts. Qantas as an airline has a pretty impeccable record for safety, so do a lot of aviation companies. It is an extraordinary endorsement of the care and professionalism delivered by human beings that air safety is as good as it is. It is also amazing to think that the various companies that make the aircraft that fly every day at 8-10 thousand metres altitude, at minus 40-50 degrees centigrade, and at 800 to 1000 kms/hr, make such solid, safe and efficient machines. The only really dangerous thing on Qantas is the food, as with many other companies.
