In a statement, the boy says he was beaten and sexually mistreated by British troops after he was caught trying to steal dried milk powder.

The case comes just days after it was announced that the British Ministry of Defence would pay nearly $A6 million to Iraqis who were tortured by British troops in Basra in 2003.
