The Vatican's press office has poured cold water on expectations that the Pope will offer an apology for clergy sexual abuse.

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Do you think the Pope should apologise for sexual abuse by priests? There are expectations that the Pope will issue an apology to victims of sexual abuse by priests during his visit to Australia. The Catholic Church has been criticised over its handling of the issue. Do you think an apology from the Pope will make a difference?

I too, would like to apologise to all victims of sexual abuse. I am so sorry and ask forgiveness for all of the hurt, pain and suffering that has been caused you, usually at such a vulnerable time, by another human being. I am so sorry that you have had your innocence stolen from you, and I ask your forgiveness. I am sorry that your trust has been violated, I ask your forgiveness. I am so sorry that your sense of self has been shattered, it must be so difficult for you, I ask forgiveness. I am so sorry that you have lost your peace and self -love, I ask forgiveness. I am so sorry for all the good things you have missed out on and have been robbed of because of what has happened, I ask forgiveness. I am so sorry about the additional sexual abuse you have had to endure over your lives because of the original abuse, I ask forgiveness. I am so sorry for all of the injustice, hurt, ignorance,

The Pope may apologise if he feels so,however,he is not suppose to respond for injustices made by others because each one of us will respond of his own actions in front of the law and of God. The teaching of the Church is clear in regard to sexuality, honesty, duties,etc.. Do not forget that the traitor came from within the Apostles but did not stop the truth from being spread by the good eleven ones. Moral pain after all is not relieved by money, Panadol cannot fix it "Love can". You don't by love with compensation money.

Its interesting that we seem to be overlooking the fact that priests and representatives of the church are meant to be chosen by god. Therefore, if these representatives are inspired by the almighty to abuse children. whats that say about god? Perhpas it is time we start taking reponsibility for our own actions as a species instead of placing our trust and loved ones in the hands of some archaic religious ideal.

There you go - he made his apology. I'm willing to bet that some furore will still rise from this anyway, because it's obvious that Australia, as usual, likes to whinge.

I agree with Michael from the Coast...if it is justice or money.Should all the stolen generation individually receive tax payers money for what happened to them years ago. I believe compensation should be paid to a common fund to help victims and help them along. Should a victim of crime get compensation from the parents whose child just beat up and robbed an elderly person for "peanuts"?

  • CYNTHIA LEE FROM SYDNEY SAYS: 01:44:11 PM Friday, 18th July, 2008

Yes, the Pope should apologise for all sexual abuse by priests without leading to financial compensation. Agreed with Father Chris O'Reilly, legally all abuse cases should launched claim with police, and given defendants chances legally in court.
