Gay takes no risks before Olympics

Thursday, 24 July, 2008

American sprinter Tyson Gay has withdrawn from Friday's London Grand Prix while he continues to recover from the hamstring injury sustained at the US Olympic trials.

Gay said he wasn't taking any risks ahead of the Beijing Games.

The first round of the 100 meters is just three weeks away.

Gay had already qualified for the 100 at last month's US trials when he injured his left hamstring in the 200.

Doctors said on Thursday it was healing well.

At the London GP, Gay was due to race against Jamaica's former world record-holder Asafa Powell in the 100m.
