WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Has the Pope done enough for victims of church sex abuse? While Pope Benedict made a historic move by apologising to victims of church sex abuse in Australia, support groups say more action is needed to ensure victims are treated fairly.

The Holy Father's two public apologies to church sex abuse victims were compassionate and apparently heartfelt, but personally I am hoping that he also took the opportunity to instruct his bishops to note Fr Chris Riley's suggestions. Counselling and even consoling victims is not going to heal them unless justice is both done and seen to be done. When perpetrators have been tried in the criminal courts and punished according to the law of the land it may become possible for those who have been so terribly wronged to gradually grow into wholeness once more.
Fisher and Rudd are Queensland mates
Yesterday, Monday 21 of July, I saw a note about my country Colombia, and the presenter said that the people were protesting against the violence, actually that is truth but she haven’t said that 20 of July is the 198 anniversary of my country independence. Also this irresponsible journalist said that we have a civil war in Colombia. For the information of this uninformed media: My country hasn’t had a civil war since 1903, and despite we had left wing guerrillas, and an unstable situation, we never reached a Civil war state. I hope your journalist pay more attention the next time if not, please don’t present anything about my country.
Yes, definitely.
Does a child that has had such abuse think that it's OK because the pope said sorry? Does the next victim (in a long line of victims) feel blessed whilst having their whole sense of security obliterated? We MUST do more to eradicate this revolting sickness that is in all sectors of the human community because the catholic church is too ashamed to actually act. once again it's swept into a dark corner with a few calculated words whilst childeren are still suffering. The pope needs to be a true leader and protect these innocent people. Get pedophiles out of positions of power NOW!
"Sydney gets 'mojo' back with the end of WYD" suits better.
This is the most bizarre story I have read for weeks!!!!! From National Party to the Vatican! Hasnt Fisher got anything useful to do down on the farm????? What an enormous waste of taxpayers money. Shame Rudd Shame!!!!!
If the Pope is as powerful as he is made out to be and not just a puppet he would bring in ground breaking change throughout the church to stop these crimes. He would then sack and excommunicate all those found to be involved in the perpetration and cover up of these crimes. Words are so often empty. Actions speak louder than words.
The Pope ought to: have all Catholic clergy and aspirants assessed by non-Catholic (ie independent) panel of psychologists and psychiatrists to screen out those of deviant sexuality. Checks every so often ought to be undetaken. The innocent have nothing to fear. From the wealthiest corporation on Earth (the Catholic Church is number 1 ahead of Coca Cola), he ought to establish a fund that compensates as realistically as possible the unfortunate victims of the perverted clergy who prey on the innocent and those under their care. The Church should refrain from fighting victims and payouts in court. An apology is nice but only words. It fools no-one with sny sense of justice - least of all parents of victims and victims. Anyone can commit terrible atrocities and apologize. It is action to put right what those representing the Pope and his Church put wrong and to ensure any re-occurrence is prevented that is required. A Church CEO or organisation man covering the butt of the organisation is just too trite nowadays. Pell and Fisher have done enormous PR damage to Catholicism in their mealy mouthed attempts at distancing themselves. You have a personal and collective guilt! No, the Pope has been regrettably feeble in this matter. He has been more political than pontifical. It would appear he is more focused on damage control and PR than driving the equivalents of the Biblical money lenders from the Temple with a scourge. What would Jesus have done folks?
Pell, Fisher, et al made sure that their complicity in sheltering pederasts and paedophiles would not come in in this carefully orchestrated meeting - did anyone really expect anything of real substance?
