THE PEACE SOLUTION FROM A FREE PLANET SAYS:04:05:58 AM Thursday, 24th July, 2008
A lot of this stuff is so sadly prescriptive and conditional. Yes, it really IS time to move away from that kind of thinking - but toward what?
So many people have an agenda and the lastest is "anti-God" just to pretend that they are clever. So, false motives still abound in all this.
People do need a code of behaviour that leads to right thought and action but then permitting politicians and the advertizing industry and lawyers and big business to lie to us makes it all a lot less than worthwile.
Thus, my suggestion is to firstly adhere to the path of TRUTH in all things but especially as regards oneself.
As we are all dependent on each other and society to some degree, the essentially self-serving "I can do what I want" should still give way to the ancient GOLDEN RULE of "do to others as you would have them do to you".
Well, that's only two but they are all-embracing. They also require people to give up a lot of things - like the awful Aussie/Anglo "I'll punch you in the face, mate!" belligerence and gratuitous violence and aggressive self-righteousness.
But, none of these values are in any way new. they are actually timeless and do not belong to any one religion of Man. Now that science has accepted the "Big Bang" as the original Creation by an unknowable "Cause", we still have to learn the real reason for our existence!?!?
LINCOLN FROM MELBOURNE SAYS:03:41:24 PM Monday, 21st July, 2008
I'm going to back up Jesus' own simplification of the ten commandments, by reducing them down to two: Love your neighbour as you love yourself (If you have trouble loving yourself, look at the night sky) and secondly, but more importantly, love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind and soul. In doing these two things, you actually effectively achieve the plan and purpose of the Ten Commandments.
I want to say quickly that grace covers all sin, but does not strip the world's right to allow a justice system to take effect. Where a person commits a crime, the bible fully supports that person being treated in the way of the law of teh land. Paedophilia is both a sin and a crime. While grace covers the sin, it doesn't waive the crime. The catholic church seems to think it's appropriate to hide these crimes as though they're sins, in that they're covered, but their understanding of Grace's power is flawed. Grace is amazing and has the power to heal the sinner from the desire to sin, but it doesn't trump the justice system or the retibution from justice.

AJT From Sydney: I would have thought that a liberal minded modern Australian who is open and tolerant would allow me to have my view without being accused of being a bigot and intolerant. In addition, how can you consider yourself to be a judge of what is good in the ways of others which are apparently not may ways? Do you have sole rights to knowing what is good? Are not the 3 big religions of the world that arose from the 3 Tribes of Abraham demonstrative of some of the most bigoted and intolerant views ever to have existed?

Come on SBS. This is a ridiculous thred. I know you are anti-Christian, but please try and hide your obvious left wing bias. You would'nt dare say anything disparaging with the words, Koran or Mohammed would you?

thou shalt not protect priests who sexually abuse children.
The Ten Commandments is from God and there is no need to re-write it as it always be relevant for all age and time.
Loose religon, find God.
