US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will take in the views from Perth's Kings Park on Friday on the second and last day of her West Australian visit.

Dr Rice, in Perth as a guest of Foreign Affairs Minister Stephen Smith, flew into Perth shortly before 7pm on Thursday (WST) for the brief hospitality visit.

Amid heavy security, she and Mr Smith flew in from a Singapore meeting of ASEAN ministers aboard her US Air Force B737.

They were met by a small party of dignitaries and driven to a dinner at the University of Western Australia hosted by WA Premier Alan Carpenter.

Dr Rice and about 100 other guests attending the dinner were heckled by about 30 placard waving anti-war protesters on their arrival.

The guest list included former defence minister and opposition leader Kim Beazley, former WA premier Richard Court and business, sport and religious identities.

Dr Rice did not make a formal address to the dinner and Australian and US organisers of the visit say it is "all about hospitality" after Mr Smith invited her to his home town in January.

On Friday, Dr Rice was to visit the Perth girls' school, Mercedes College, the oldest existing secondary school in Perth.

A keen musician, she was to be entertained by the school choir after a question and answer session with students.

She is then scheduled to make a private visit to the SAS Barracks at Swanbourne before being driven to Kings Park for a wreath laying at the cenotaph and a news conference to be attended by US and Australian media.

Kings Park overlooks Perth and provides spectacular views of the city centre and the Swan River.

Mr Smith was to accompany Dr Rice on a stroll around the Kings Park Botanical Gardens before she ends her Perth visit and flies to her next stop, New Zealand.
