Manchester United crowned champions
Monday, 12 May, 2008
Manchester United has won their 17th English league title with a 2-0 defeat of Wigan Athletic on the final day of the season.
A penalty from Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo and a late goal to veteran Ryan Giggs was enough to give the Red Devils the three points needed to win the English Premier League.
Manchester United ended the season on 87 points, two clear of second-placed Chelsea, who drew 1-1 with Bolton Wanderers at Stamford Bridge.
Arsenal finished third followed by Liverpool and Everton after all three won on the final day.
The last round ended with Birmingham and Reading joining Derby as the three relegated teams after Fulham survived with a 1-0 win over Portsmouth.
